Children are always at the heart of everything we do. Albert Bradbeer undertakes rigorous vetting, DBS checking and pre-employment checks on all adults working with children in our school. Visitors are closely supervised when on site. 

School will take appropriate action to ensure the safety of our pupils. In cases where we feel that a pupil may be subject to neglect, ill treatment or abuse, we follow Birmingham Child Protection procedures and inform Children’s Services of our concerns. Our aim is to support families by following Birmingham’s Right Help, Right Time guidance.  

All staff are trained to be vigilant for all kinds of safeguarding concerns, including bullying, online safety, emotional, physical and sexual abuse and extremist behaviour.

We seek to ensure that our curriculum equips all children with opportunities to develop their own skills and knowledge so that they are able to keep themselves safe. We promote fundamental British values, which include: democracy, the rule of law,  individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. We therefore ensure that any behaviours or language used which are contrary to these are effectively challenged. We are alert to the indicators of radicalisation and child exploitation and take steps to protect those who may be susceptible to such messages.

If you have a concern that a child is being harmed, is at risk of harm, or you receive a disclosure (intentionally or unintentionally), you should contact us in school as quickly as possible.  

All concerns are shared, where necessary, to external agencies including Birmingham Children’s Services and the Police.

Safeguarding Throughout the Curriculum 

Through our PSHE scheme, Jigsaw, we cover many aspects of safeguarding throughout the year. 

In addition to this, we timetable several additional safeguarding awareness sessions and days throughout the school year. 

Every year group learns about bullying when we mark Anti-Bullying Week each year in Autumn 2. The children learn about what bullying is, the different types of bullying and what to do if a child witnesses bullying. Our school is a member of the Anti-Bullying Alliance. 

We use the NSPCC materials, “Let’s Talk Pants” and “Speak Out, Stay Safe!” 

We have visitors to different year groups such as the Fire Service (Fire Safety), Severn Trent (Water Safety), Police Content as appropriate for the age of the children), Blue Cross (Safety around Pets), etc. Any visitors to school by organisations such as this are vetted using the Birmingham City Council No Platform Policy.
