Core Subjects:

In Maths in Year 1, we focus on place value to 20 and beyond, addition and subtraction strategies, different units of measure and recognising 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.

In English we focus on building our writing skills in letter formation, word and sentence structure and recounting of stories and events. We develop our speaking and listening skills by participating in role play and group activities and taking turns. We follow the Talk for Writing approach. We are also using the RWI (Read, Write Inc) scheme to develop our reading and phonics.

In Science we learn all about Plants and Growth, Animals including Humans, Everyday Materials and Seasonal Change. To support our learning, we do lots of practical investigations, and take our learning into the outside environment where possible.

1A PE: Tuesdays and Fridays

1B PE: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Please ensure children come to school in the correct PE kit on these days, suitable for both indoor or outdoor learning.
