At Albert Bradbeer we follow a knowledge engaged curriculum which is based on the 2014 National Curriculum.
You can read more information about the curriculum for each subject area by clicking on them below.
You can read each year group’s latest curriculum newsletter on each year group page.
phonics
All children in EYFS up to Year 2 take part in the RWI phonics programme. Children are grouped by ability and take part in these sessions daily.
The children learn 44 sounds along with the corresponding letters/ letter groups (digraphs) using simple picture prompts. They also learn to read words using sound blending (Fred Talk), write the letters/ letter groups which represent the 44 sounds and spell words through the use of segmenting.
Reading
Reading is high priority at Albert Bradbeer. We teach whole class reading, using VIPERS to support the structure of the lessons and the learning. Children in Key Stage 2 (and Year 2 where appropriate) use Accelerated Reader to ensure they are reading books which are of an appropriate level of challenge to support their Reading development.
writing
We use the Talk for Writing approach to the teaching of Writing in English lessons across the school.

RE
Parents have the right to withdraw their children from religious education and/or collective worship on the grounds that they wish to provide their own RE. This should be discussed with the Headteacher. DfE Guidance.
